The adventures of Cam

Hello and welcome to a world where funny, crazy and unexpected things happen... after a hard year getting my Masters Degree and having a crazy Summer in London, I decided to go and work for the South Korean government on several teaching projects (Comm Design & English) for a private design middle school
and design university... my new adventure has begun!

Creative Work, fun and Swine Flu.

I should also point out that my 14yr olds love creating things from sticks of flint....and it is scary how creative they can be, these items were made in a 45min design class, just so you can begin to understand why the korean work ethic is so high and they can build bridges and office buildings in a day!
Gogo (i named her after the villain in Kill Bill-look-a-likes) hard at work

Then there is the highlight of the month...H1N1 vaccines (yey!)

So this is a bunch of my crazy girls who run around beating up the boys (3:1 obviously) amongst other things...
I haven't given this pair english names yet

Seoul Lantern Festival 2009

The event was held at Gwanghwamun Plaza, a very nice place where the river runs through the entire province.

I managed to visit the final day of the festival (albeit by accident), as I was looking for a Ukulele in near City Hall. The weather wasn't great so didn't get as many pictures as I wanted, but hope you enjoy them people.

Winter is around the corner

The leaves are slowly losing their colour and start to fall away. All my 3rd graders have finished their high school entrance exams and the ones who do well will be rewarded with....plastic surgery! Yes its quite commonplace that girls who do well in exams get some work done (why they would want to change their cute korean features for a 'western' looking one i have no idea!) but its mostly the 19/20yr olds that do it (non of whom you will see in my blog). I work at a private school so a lot of money flying around. As part of their english exam i made them act out a childrens story, we had a lot of fun >_<.

Halloween 2009 - Korean style!

So Halloween was the highlight event for the last week or so amongst us westerners. Its not celebrated in Korea much, which didn't really bother me as i grew up not celebrating it. On the Friday 30th, one of my fellow caribbean friends Kris told me about a korean reggae band 'Windy City' were playing in Hongdae, so we decided to go to this club that was really busy and had some cool rock bands playing (including 'No Brain')...to be honest i thought the idea of koreans playing reggae was a joke....until i actually heard them-they were impressive! Its 3 guys and a girl...the crowd were really good too! Then around 5am...we stumbled into 'Roots' the ONLY reggae bar in Seoul....owned by this really cute Japanese couple, and boy do they know a thing or two about 'black' music...will defo be hanging out there! Needles to say we partied hard and met random people (this seems to be a common theme).

I spent Saturday inside as to avoid the poison rain...but about 40 of us had planned to have a house party at Sydney's (she looks like my eldest neice-will show at a later date!), then head into Hongdae (again! Hongdae is the place to be..too many clubs/bars and has the best design university in korea, so lots of students and creative minds around).

I decided at the last minute to go and buy a costume as it was fancy dress and didn't want to kill the vibe..but on my way to the store, i found myself becoming excited about the prospect of dressing up as id never done it before...i took it easy though and settled for a pair of wings and a halo....to be fair i went to some clothing district and got lost, had to call everyone i knew to find out where to get a costume! (thanks Isis).... "tonight Mathew, im going to be a fallen angel, hehe!" (my UK friends will get that one). We ended up getting terribly drunk....obviously! Great weekend!
